Jasper Sebastian Sturup

Jasper Sebastian Stürup is a 48-year-old artist from Denmark. He now works in Berlin, Germany. He studied at The Jutland Academy of Fine Arts, Århus and received his MA from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art, Copenhagen. He specializes in freehand drawing, although he also does painting and sculptures. Jasper also is the author of three art books: Whiskey Works Better Than Beer, Just Another Diamond Day, and God Damn The Sun A 100 Drawings. He depicts people and scenes from art, folk and pop music, avant-garde and independent film, as well as literature. He often shows these subjects with aspects of everyday life, as well as plants and creatures from nature. He often uses song lyrics or poetry as his piece titles. Recently he has been focusing more on his paintings. Unlike his earlier drawings, his paintings now are a lot more simple and refer to the human figure. His paintings are also very emotional and colorful, whereas his drawings are black and white.
For this project, I choose to focus on Jasper’s earlier drawing rather than his recent paintings. I chooseJasper Sebastian Stürup because his style of drawing is similar to mine. I really like how he overlaps images and maintains a “sketchy” quality to his work. His line work is fairly simple and thin yet is still impactful. He uses space very well and allows the paper to show a lot. He lets his pieces breathe and have a good contrast without being overpowering.
